Literally, the day I got the positive test, I saw my doc immediately and she put me on all the protective measures to keep this baby safe. I had no morning sickness (just a little nausea treated well with Jolly Ranchers), craved maple donuts, and was on top of the world. The spotting started pretty early but all the numbers looked ok. My wonderfully conservative doc put my on bedrest at 22 weeks....much to my dismay. There I sat for the next 3 months. Feeling like it would never end.
The only times I left the house were for my OB appts and to see the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist. We were thrilled with the numerous ultrasounds where we got to see Baby C doing flips and stretching limbs. Yes, Baby C. Because we're those crazy parents who didn't want to know until D-Day.
At 36 weeks, back to work I went (since I work at the hospital where I would be delivering). I worked part-time and really.....did very little work. It was nice to be out of the house and seeing my coworkers, but I didn't work very hard.
On January 27, my last day of work before my Feb. 2 scheduled c-section, I noticed and unfamiliar trickle as I got out of the bathtub. With some weird intuition, I packed my hospital bag and left it on the bedroom floor. I told Hubby that I would check in with the doc when I got to work but I was sure it was nothing. I even texted my BFF on the way to work and asked her advice, thinking I was over-reacting.
The OB saw me right away and told me the trickle was amniotic fluid! My water had broken!! After a quick check and some monitoring, she told me I was 3cm dilated and having back-to-back contractions!! WHAT THE HECK?? I asked if I would make it until my schedule c/s next week, and she replied "honey, you're having this baby before lunch"!
God works in mysterious ways. Had I been made to keep the scheduled appt, I would not have slept for days before and worried myself into a frenzy. Its best that this all happened without me being able to over-think it.
Precious Baby was born into this world on January 27 with a joyous shout "Its a boy"!!
